CCIL2014-3OWIT-Ottawa was proud to take part, for the second year in a row, in the 2014 Canadian Council on International Law’s (CCIL) 43rd Annual Conference. Last year, OWIT-Ottawa presented a panel of experts discussing issues of corporate governance and promotion of women on corporate boards.  The topic of the Conference this year was “Combustion: Energy, Resources and Environmental Issues Igniting International Law.”  OWIT-Ottawa presented an afternoon panel session on November 14, 2014, discussing the issue of “Professional Women in the Extractive Sector.”  The panel, represented by lawyers practicing in the extraction industry, discussed global market issues for Canadian mining companies operating in the world, and challenges and changes in the industry.  The experts agreed that new technologies have played an important role in changing industry practices, resulting in greater participation of women in this traditionally male-dominated sector.
