On December 10, 2014, OWIT-Ottawa held its 3rd Annual Holiday Social at Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP. This annual holiday tradition brought together OWIT-Ottawa members and a distinguished panel to discuss how Canadian businesses can take advantage of Canada’s recently concluded Free Trade Agreements and to celebrate the holiday season.
The evening’s speakers included Anne Finlayson, CEO & CFO for Standard Innovation Corporation; Johane Séguin, Sector VP for the Extractive and Resources Group at EDC; and Wendy Wagner, Partner at Gowlings’ Ottawa office, leader of the firm’s Transportation and Logistics Group and Privacy and Information Management Group, as well as President of OWIT-Ottawa.
Finlayson, Séguin, and Wagner provided insight into how Canada’s corporate, finance, and legal worlds have interpreted and responded to Canada’s growing number of Trade Agreements and highlighted opportunities for Canadian business looking to engage in international trade. As always, questions from the audience were diverse, including on the topics of Intellectual Property and Copyright, Standards, trade financing, and tariffs, making for a lively discussion.
As is tradition, the evening closed with a plethora of door prizes, including passes to the NAC, the Museum of Nature and The Canadian War Museum. At the cocktail reception, attendees continued their discussions with the panel, networked with other OWIT-Ottawa members, and kicked off the holiday season.
